December 13, 2014 - February 26, 2014
Opening Reception: December 13, 7 - 9 PM
Moskowitz Gallery is pleased to announce its first solo show, featuring the works of artist Alexa Guariglia. The drawings and paintings displayed span four years of work. They are the products of a tireless dedication to practice, refinement, and an intuitive understanding of form. While the works are both figurative and abstract, they remain inextricably linked by a virtuosic hand.
Record of Motion is a catalog of Guariglia’s work. In it we find not just the movements of her hand, recorded in the thousands of brushstrokes, but her development as an artist. Closer inspection of these works reveal layer after layer of various objects and human body parts. Slowly, the subject matter itself becomes the record of motion, and the true profundity of Guariglia’s art is felt in the seamless intertwining of concept and form.
These paintings provide insights into a mind that moves at great speeds. They are the manifestations of someone who is feverishly consumed with solving problems of form, and only freed by ceaseless exploration of her visual language.
“Through rhythm and motion, we build a metropolis of thoughts and experience, physical and emotional walls, often times with windows and doors, through which we gain and grant entry and observe from our inner sanctum.” - Alexa Guariglia
